Physical Education Removal

Recently, schools are wanting to go away from physical education or wanting shorter P.E. classes and more time in classroom setting. Those teachers want more classroom time because they believe they aren't given enough time throughout a year to accomplish what the state requires them to do. Another reason is they tend to believe that students come back to the classroom after P.E. not ready to work. I believe this is false because statistics show that giving students a chance to get out of the classroom for an hour a day help students be more alert and successful in academic endeavors. Also, for younger students being in a classroom could be counter productive.

  1. Joey I like this blog because I too am a future Physical Educator. I believe P.E. is an important part of a students day, because it indeed gives them an opportunity to get up and move around to release some of those endorphin's. Teachers in other classes should plan their days accordingly knowing in advance how much time is allotted for educational learning.

  3. Joey,

I completely agree with you on the fact the gym class is very important for students. Getting out of the classroom to have a change of scenery and a brain break is exactly what students need in order to succeed in their other classes. Having students sit their desk all day long just reading and writing is not something that will keep their brain moving as their teachers expect.
