People have different views on if social media is good or bad. I enjoy social media because people can use it for a good cause like the story I am about to share with you.
Last week my old high school played their last regular season game. They were projected to win big against the opposing team. They did just so but that wasn't the highlight of the game. The opposing team has a player with a disability and both coaches met before the game to have the young man play in one play and score a touchdown for his team. This may be the best memory or moment he has ever had in his lifetime.
After the game, a video was posted to social media and people in our area made a gofundme account for this young man and his family. This touched me very much. Without this video, without social media, this young man and his family might not have been recognized. Therefore, someone wouldn't have been able to make this gofundme account for this family.
This impacted me because it makes me realize that there's so much more in the world, there's so many people out there that have things tough. It makes me want to help others as often as I can and don't be selfish, be selfless.

Um... yup. This is totally amazing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing story, Joey. These types of stories always make me smile. I love the fact they did a GoFundMe page as well. 2 years ago I had a friend who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer for the 3rd time. His family ran out of insurance funds and were neck deep in debt. To help out , a group of his clients created a GoFund Me page for him and his family to help out with the funds, and collectively they managed to raise over $1,500 in a span of 3 weeks. His story hit home for a lot of people across the country who were helping out without any knowledge of who he even was. It was great to see community come together like that, and do so much for a person they did not even know.
ReplyDeleteThanks, your story is very enjoyable yet sad too! Hope your friend is doing better.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. This reminds me of a student that I went to High School with. His name was Jack and he was tall but so uncoordinated. It took him so much work to become good at basketball but with the support of the team he finally got there. He was a fan favorite because he encouraged everyone.
